8 Powerful Ways to Improve Mental Health for Students

In the time when Covid has forced us to enter a digital world which makes the school authorities take education to a different level. Here classes are being scheduled, on Meet, digitally. There is no physical interaction between the teacher and the students. There is no group discussion or any kind of physical activity. These types of classes have never been thought of by anyone. This situation and its consequences have affected the mind of a child.

Mental Health is a state of the mind of an individual where the person realizes his potential and can cope with the daily stress of life. Be more productive and fruitful towards his profession and community. It’s not only the absence of any mental illness but also enjoying life to its fullest.

Below stated some of the ways to improve the mental health of students in this Pandemic Environment:

  1. Yoga

Yoga is a very useful way to control or reduce mental stress. In this modern world; this ancient method takes oneself close to Mother Earth.

  • Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breathing): it slows down the exhilaration and affects the whole nervous system. It is the best pranayama for the mind and for eliminating stress. It also prevents hypertension. It fills the full body with vibration and you concentrate on your brain. The performer can’t hear the sound of surrounding people.
  • Anulom Vilom: It is very useful for increases concentration. It strengthens the spiritual power and the memory power of an individual. It also improves digestion. This breathing technique helps to get rid of respiratory problems.
  • Shitali pranayama (the cooling breath): This breathing technique cools the whole body. This is preferred to do in summer or the hottest part of the day. It helps to maintain the bile creation. It also controls hunger and increases thirst. It is great for pregnant women.
  • Meditation: it enhances our concentration, bringing us to a state of deep relaxation and a tranquil mind. It strengthens the relationship between the mind and the body.

2. Physical Activity

It is scientifically proven that vigorous physical activity helps to reduce mental health, being physically fit gives someone the confidence to face anything. It helps to alleviate mild to moderate depression. This improves the self-concept and IQ level of a mentally retired person. Even a short period of walking or exercise increases our mental alertness, enhances energy, and radiates positivity. Participation in regular exercising increases self-esteem and also prevents stress and anxiety. Researches have been found that people feel more awake and calmer after being physically active.

For example, if an individual feels some anxiety attack like breathing very heavily or paining in chest or headache, they should immediately involve themselves in some little physical exercise like cracking joints of their finger or deep breathing or use muscle relaxation techniques.

3. Proper Diet

A proper and complete diet is the urgent need for emotional well-being. A balanced diet contains fruits, leafy vegetables, dairy, grains, and protein. We should also take the Mediterranean diet. Guardians should focus on the dietary pattern on glycemia, immune activity, and the gut microbiome. These play a role in the relation of food and mood. Students should avoid any type of junk food as far as possible. A person should eat chocolates in his/her pressure time. It stimulates and increases the blood flow in the brain. As a result, the brain releases a compound associated with feeling of pressure and motivation.

Another very vital thing that a student or better said any person must never take that, is any type of drugs intake. Alcohol and Tobacco are the cancer of society. These substances are very harmful to health. This may relax for some initial moments but cause long-term disease.

4. Follow Your Passion

To maintain good mental health, it is very necessary to follow one’s instincts; and one should always be passionate about their interests. In this limited situation; students should use the boom it brings that is time. Students should carry on with their hobbies like singing, painting, and dancing. They should give more time to their existing skills and must try to advance them. The students should try to popularize their talents on any social media platform. This will greatly enhance encourage their mental strength. It will bring enormous happiness and joy to the individual.

There is another thing you can do besides this and that is investing time in learning new skills. You can learn new skills that will provide you any future benefits like any online computer course, practice writing, learn new languages any many more. Everything is one surf away in this 21st Century. Nowadays work from home is the new need so you can also try your hand in freelancing and social media marketing. These two are the hottest topics going on today.

5. Family and Friends

Students should build healthy relationships with their friends and family. This situation gives us an awesome opportunity to spend quality time with our close ones. In the busy schedule of a school student from 6 hours school to late-night tuitions, they don’t get much of their time with family so, they should try to fill this gap up with as many communications as possible. Parents and elder ones should also help them in this. They should involve their youngers in family talks. Students should take parent’s advice and learn from their experiences before making any final decisions. Parents should talk about their school or college life experiences to encourage their children. As a student, you should always talk to your guardians about the difficulties they are facing in this current situation. Parents should always approach their children with positivity, this invisible support encourages them a lot and boosts their mental health. Both must try to bring down the generation gap between them.

6. Be Optimistic

One should always be optimistic in hard times. Whatever happens, there is always a good side and everybody should always focus on the positive side. Students should never leave hope. If you consider today’s situations, there is also a booming side of this lockdown but you must have the potential to use it. Students should watch motivational videos if required. They should never try to predict the future, if something went wrong try it again and again and do it till you get it right. Never forget that practice is the process of perfection and failure is the process of Success. In general, everybody should create some positive mantras for themselves own self, for example, you should change “not enough” to “good enough”. As a student’s life is full of learning and creativity, they should challenge their negative thoughts. Optimism also comes from accomplishments and compliments. You should always tryst the inner vibe that YOU CAN DO. Parents should always surround them with positivity.

7. Proper Sleep

This is very necessary and a proper 7–8 hours’ sleep must include in a student routine. A proper sleep recreates the body, made him fit and ready for tomorrow’s load. It enables the body to repair. Irregular periods of sleep often lead to depression and anxiety. It also promotes cognition and memory power of the mind, helps in learning and memorizing, and also recharges skills. If a student lacks potential sleep, he/she might get suffered from chronic sleep deprivation such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity or lower sex drive, and many more. Improver sleep leaves your brain exhausted so it can’t perform its duties efficiently. A student must get a sound sleep to concentrate and learn new skills or upgrade the existing ones.

8. Connect to the World.

society is an inseparable part of a human’s life. We are born in it and will die with it only. Humans are called social animals as humans are evolved in such a way that they can’t survive in isolation. Human life depends on another human. They live in groups; you can call it a family or a city or even a country. We all are interdependent. Nowadays the world is just one click of surf away. Anything to everything is now available on the Internet. It is a huge web that has captured the whole world in it. Now it is possible to communicate over geographical boundaries. Students should utilize this boom to enhances their personalities. They should indulge themselves in online webinars and seminars on educational topics or with the topics of their interests. They must give 15–20 minutes on TV watching news debates and current affairs of both the country and the globe. Watch the things happening outside in this world and acknowledging yourself.

As a student, it is necessary to build good Mental Health. Students are the future of a country; they should be fit both physically and mentally to give the best out of their capacity to society. It has been scientifically proven that students who have good mental health, possess more productivity in their community. They have the most creative mind and if you alleviate the mental stress they have, they can take the society to an upgraded level.
